The core of advertising communication must be about the understanding of its ideological meanings and functions and not just for economic and commercial purposes. In order to do this, the craft of directing advertising campaigns or projects must be underpinned by a sound knowledge in advertising principles, marketing communication and a critical and theoretical awareness of business and ethics. It is a multi-layered industry that has become increasingly important making advertising a significant tool in international communication. The specialism aims to develop creative practitioners who think strategically, and strategists who think creatively.
